BECOME A CHOIR LEADER

The perfect job for working musicians.

Being a choir leader is one of the most amazing, rewarding and challenging jobs you can do in music. But what actually is the job and could you do it?

A successful choir leader requires a very talented musician to combine various skills:

- You need to be able to read music, understand harmony and passionately teach our arrangements in a fun and entertaining way, whilst accompanying yourself on piano or guitar.

- You will need to lead choirs in performances and through many life-affirming musical experiences.

- You will need to build and inspire a community and foster a great relationship with everyone involved. In return, the choir members will be grateful to you, look up to you and share their musical journey with you for as long as you can keep inspiring them - giving you a rewarding, stable, long-term musical job working with gracious, generous people who love what you do and are thankful for you.

Your role
as a choir leader

Our story so far

Local Vocals began online in January 2021 and has since grown to a huge community of local people who just love to sing together. We believe that Local Vocals is for EVERYBODY who likes to sing - an authentic local choir experience, founded on friendship, community & inclusivity. Our founder, Laura (who has worked for other choir companies in the past), knew that the missing piece of the puzzle was this emphasis on localism and being proud of where we live here in the North West.

Local Vocals is now a thriving community choir company, with nine community choirs in Lancaster, Morecambe, St Anne’s, Preston, Chorley, Burnley, Clitheroe, Wigan and Blackburn. The ethos of our company is centered around supporting & celebrating local communities and local charities through the joy of singing together! Our choirs sing popular, feel-good songs from across the decades and anyone is welcome to join with no auditions and no previous musical experience required.

We have established ourselves as a reputable and well known choir across our towns and have raised over £31,000 for local causes including Lancashire Mind, Rosemere Cancer Foundation and Derian House. Some of our choir’s highlights so far include performing at many high profile local events including Lytham Festival and Wigan Football Stadium, featuring on Sky News & BBC radio and recording a collaborative charity single with Tommy Cannon.

As Local Vocals grows, our goal is to share our unique community choir experience in more locations across the North West. We also plan to expand our community choir experience to include other demographics - care home residents & adults with learning needs. As well as our community choirs, we also provide singing workshops in the community to local schools and businesses so EVERYBODY can experience the joy of singing together.
